Our History
“ And I say also unto thee, That thou art Peter, and upon this rock I will build my church; and the gates of hell shall not prevail against it”. Matthew 16:18 (KJV)
Having heard the voice God, Rev. Bonnie Henry Shropshire was moved to organized the “Solid Rock Missionary Baptist Church in March 1981. The first location was on Crumes Road, Vine Grove Kentucky. The church remained at that location until 1990. With the aid of Rev. John Clarkson and other dedicated members the church was able to purchase the old Morning Star Missionary Baptist Church building located at 617 East Main Street. Rev. Shropshire stepped down as pastor in 1993. Rev John Clarkson served as interim pastor until 1994.
A letter dated January 10, 1994 was sent to New Hope Missionary Baptist Church requesting that Reverend John Marshall be ordained and installed as pastor of Solid Rock Missionary Baptist Church. The Ordination and Installation occurred on February 20, 1994. Rev. O.C Jones Sr. served as moderator for the ordination/installation services. During Rev. Marshall’s tenure as pastor, many notable achievements were accomplished. Having a number of dedicated members namely: Reverend Listopher Ward, Sis. Daphne Ward, Deacon George Houser, Deaconess Charlotte Houser, Sis Joan Davis and others whose names may be lost to history, but not forgotten in heaven.
Notable Changes
- In October 1997 the Name of the church was changed to Revelation Missionary Baptist Church.
- Land adjacent to the present church property was purchased to build a new church building.
- In March 2007 the church held a ground breaking ceremony to begin the building of the new church building.
- In June of 2007 the congregation moved into the new church building.
- Under the leadership of Rev. Marshall, the membership grew exponentially with a host of ministries including youth, Sunday School and Bible Studies. It is apparent that the people had a mind to work toward expanding the Kingdom of God as they served as His ambassadors.
- After 23 years of distinguished leadership and dedication, Pastor Rev. John Marshall retired from the pastorate of Revelation Missionary Baptist Church effective December 31, 2017.
- After a period without a pastor, the Revelation Missionary Baptist Church convened a pastor search committee and after much prayer extended a call to Dr. O.C Jones Sr. to serve as pastor.
- Dr. Jones’ first Sunday as pastor was December 9, 2018. He was officially installed July 21, 2019.
- The Name of the church was changed to New Beginning Baptist Church on September 1, 2019
